Pray welcome to the
Zip
School |
First
proposed in 1999, the zip is a very short flexible yet fixed-form stanza
designed to show to best advantage the natural cadences of English.
In so far as a single stanza may constitute a complete poem, the zip is in some ways analogous to the Japanese teikei (strict form) haiku stanza, although a number of expert commentators in that field would regard such a claim as contentious. The present material, with its attendant alteration of approach, supersedes earlier work such as that hosted at the now defunct villarana web site. Please
